The Council of Europe is pleased to announce the eighth ratification of the amending Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to the Processing of Personal Data (CETS 223). On 21 September, the Permanent Representation of Cyprus to the Council of Europe transmitted its ratification instrument to the Secretary General, Ms Marija Pejčinović Burić.

Cyprus has been Party to Convention 108 since 1 June 2002.

The entry into force of Convention 108+ is crucial in the digital age and many other ratifications should hopefully take place this year to enable the rapid entry into force of this modernised landmark instrument.
