The Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child held its 8th plenary meeting

At its 8th Plenary meeting (14-16 November 2023), the Steering Committee for the Rights of the Child (CDENF) adopted a Guide for medical professionals to children’s participation in decisions regarding their health, jointly elaborated with the Steering Committee for Human Rights in the fields of Biomedicine and Health (CDBIO).

It also approved a Report on Children as Defenders of Human Rights and the First Implementation Report of the Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2022-2027) that will be submitted to the Committee of Ministers. All these documents will be soon published and made available online. The Committee held a thematic exchange on Children’s Rights and the Environment. This exchange offered an opportunity to exchange information on relevant national activities and to have a common reflection for future possible CDENF actions, such as a guidance note for member States to implement the UNCRC General Comment No. 26 at the European level.

Furthermore, at a joint meeting held on 16 November, the CDENF and the European Committee for Legal Co-operation (CDCJ) approved the draft recommendation on the protection of the rights and best interests of the child in parental separation procedures, and adopted its explanatory memorandum. This draft recommendation will be transmitted for adoption to the Committee of Ministers, together with the draft recommendation on care procedures to be completed by the end of 2024.
