Strengthening the efficiency of justice in Kosovo* with courts and improved statistics

A team of three CEPEJ experts visited for the first time four Basic Courts (Mitrovica, Gjakova, Prizren and Peja) to collect information concerning the functioning of these courts and to discuss the implementation of the SATURN Time Management guidelines with the Courts’ Presidents on the basis also of the collected courts’ statistics. The outcome of these meetings will be included in individual court coaching reports which will offer an analysis of the court’s situation in light of the SATURN Guidelines with preliminary recommendations to improve their functioning. Furthermore, a CEPEJ expert led a workshop at the Kosovo Judicial Council (KJC) with the local team responsible for the development of the new case management system (CMIS). The aim was to exchange good practices to strengthen judicial statistics and their use in light of the CEPEJ methodology and tools. The CEPEJ also expert met with main beneficiaries from courts and the KJC to address the meaningful use of reports of judicial statistics which can be improved in Kosovo to suit the needs of the different groups of users to improve courts’ performance. These activities took place from 2 to 4 October 2017.
