On 29 and 30 October, the CEPEJ Working Group on judicial time management (CEPEJ-SATURN) met in Strasbourg to continue its work under its 2024-2025 mandate. The Working Group adopted the draft Time Management Checklist for public prosecution services, along with an accompanying Explanatory Note, with a view to presenting it to the CEPEJ for adoption during its plenary session which will be held in December 2024.
This tool also took into account the comments of the Consultative Council of European Prosecutors (CCPE), which was consulted to ensure that it meets the needs of practitioners. The Working group also continued discussions on case-weighting methodologies, for which a tool is currently in preparation. The progress on the setting up of the Database of Backlog Reduction Practices were also presented.
The CEPEJ-SATURN also explored the potential impact of Artificial Intelligence on court efficiency, with insights from a representative of CEPEJ-GT-CYBERJUST. Furthermore, a tool to measure the length of the steps of civil procedure as well as the study on workload measurement tools in judicial systems were examined. Finally, the agenda included a discussion on improving the work-life balance and some future work themes of the CEPEJ-SATURN in the framework of the future mandate for 2026-2027.
