Back Best Practice Exchange on Judicial Data Collection in Greece – Athens, 8–11 September 2026

Best Practice Exchange on Judicial Data Collection in Greece – Athens, 8–11 September 2026

As part of the cooperation project between Greece and the CEPEJ on reducing the backlog of court cases, the Athens Court of First Instance hosted the statistics department of the Thessaloniki Court of First Instance from 8 to 11 September 2026 for an exchange of best practice on the collection of judicial data.

Based on the CEPEJ’s methodology for collecting statistics within courts and the templates contained in the backlog reduction Tool, this collaborative work will, in particular, help to improve the automation of data processing via the existing Case Management System (CMS). The data collection exercise is indeed a fundamental step for the courts, enabling them to identify categories of pending cases and thus to better target areas for improvement in the handling of court cases.

The exchange of best practice between these two pilot courts should therefore facilitate harmonised data collection across both courts and the identification of procedures that could be extended to other courts in Greece.

This activity was organised within the framework of the joint EU/CoE project Supporting the reduction of the backlog of cases in the courts of first instance of Athens and Thessaloniki (pilot courts). The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Technical Support Instrument and implemented by the Council of Europe, in cooperation with the European Commission.
