A workshop designed to develop guidelines for the implementation of the Codes of Ethics for judges and prosecutors of Montenegro took place on 18 and 19 January 2018 in Podgorica.

Members of the ethical committees of the Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils, supported by two Council of Europe international experts, prepared the draft guidelines, based on the main topics of interest emerging from the workshop.

The guidelines for the implementation of the codes of ethics will contain recommendations, for both judges and prosecutors, regarding the use of social media, communication between judges, prosecutors and lawyers, freedom of association and involvement of judges and prosecutors in other activities, besides the judicial and prosecutorial functions. It will serve as a tool to which judges and prosecutors can refer if confronted with ethical dilemmas.

The workshop was organised in the framework of the Action “Accountability of the Judicial System” in Montenegro, jointly funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
