On 22 and 23 February, 40 prosecutors from Kragujevac and Novi Sad appellate regions attended a workshop on reporting concerns of undue pressure on the prosecution service. The workshops are organised as part of the joint Council of Europe/European Union Horizontal Facility action “Strengthening Legal Guarantees for Independent and Impartial Tribunals”.

Council of Europe experts, together with two members of the State Prosecutorial Council, Goran Ilic, who is also the Commissioner for Autonomy of the Prosecution, and Radovan Lazic, disseminated knowledge on international standards with respect to both internal and external undue pressure. Several case studies from Council of Europe member states were discussed, including the European Court of Human Rights case law. During the meeting particular attention was drawn to the media as a source of pressure on one side, and a possible tool for resisting undue pressure on the other.

On 15 and 16 March a workshop will be held for prosecutors from the appellate regions of Belgrade and Nis.
