Following the opening speeches of Mr Michael Ingledow, Head of the COE’s Programme Office in Ankara and Mr Mustafa Saldırım, the Project team made a brief presentation of the Project, which was followed by questions and answers. During discussions, it was underlined that the focus of this new Project is on the effectiveness and efficiency of the Court of Cassation and its capacity to improve the delivery of justice to the citizens of Turkey. The Project seeks to increase the performance of the Court of Cassation through legislative and procedural adjustments and enhance the capacity, professionalism and competency of the Court’s members, rapporteur judges, public prosecutors and staff. It also aims to foster the effective and accurate implementation of the European human rights standards by the national courts at all levels of the civil and criminal justice system.

The Project will be implemented by the CoE between March 2019-March 2022, in partnership with the Court of Cassation, which is the final beneficiary of the Project.
