CCJE Opinion on the role of courts with respect to the uniform application of the law has been presented to the representatives of the Croatian judiciary

On 15 February 2018, the Opinion No. 20 (2017) on the role of courts with respect to the uniform application of the law of the CCJE was presented to the representatives of the Croatian judiciary in Zagreb.

This presentation has been organised by the Croatian Judicial Academy (JA) in cooperation with the Association of Croatian Judges and the Hanns-Seidel Foundation. After the introductory statement by the JA Director Andrea Posavec Franić, the President of the CCJE and of the Croatian Supreme Court, Đuro Sessa, presented the work of the CCJE and its previous opinions, as well as the highlights of the Opinion No. 20 to Judges of the Croatian Supreme Court, county court and high court presidents.

The Opinion No. 20 underlines the importance of the uniform application of the law for enhancing legal certainty and the public trust in the judiciary. It deals with the role of supreme courts and appellate courts in achieving consistent and established case law and explains a possible departure from the established case law.

The translation of the Opinion No. 20 (2017) will be delivered to the Croatian courts.
