The Joint Meeting of the Bern Convention Network of Special Focal Points on Eradication of Illegal Killing, Trapping and Trade in Wild Birds and the CMS Intergovernmental Task Force on Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Migratory Birds in the Mediterranean (MIKT) was held by hybrid means in Valencia, Spain, on 7-9 June 2022.

As in previous years, the Bern Convention and the CMS Secretariats joined forces to organise this meeting, at the kind invitation of the Government of Spain.

The Joint Meeting was built on the success of previous meetings and assessed progress in addressing Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade (IKB) of Wild Birds in Europe and the Mediterranean, identifying pathways and approaches to advance the ongoing work. It also presented an opportunity to showcase best practice in the region and discussed the ongoing work on effective legislation and assessing progress toward achieving the Rome Strategic Plan. The meeting also provided opportunities for informal networking and bilateral and sub-regional discussions around IKB.
