GRETA holds its 28th meeting

The Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) held its 28th meeting from 27 to 31 March 2017 in Strasbourg.

During this meeting, GRETA adopted final second round reports on Bosnia and Herzegovina, France and Norway, as well as a final first round report on Belarus. These reports will be sent to the authorities concerned and will subsequently be made public, together with eventual final comments by the authorities.

GRETA also approved draft second round reports on Belgium, Ireland and Poland, as well as a draft first round report on Greece. GRETA decided to transmit these draft reports to the national authorities concerned and to ask them to submit their comments within two months. The comments will be taken into account when GRETA draws up its final evaluation reports. GRETA’s draft reports remain confidential until their final adoption.

During the meeting, GRETA elected a new Bureau for the next two year period. Siobhán Mullally, who is Professor of Law at University College Cork (Ireland), was elected as GRETA’s President. Jan van Dijk, Professor Emeritus at Tilburg University (Netherlands) was elected as GRETA’s 1st Vice-President. Ryszard Piotrowicz, Professor of Law at Aberystwyth University (United Kingdom) was elected as GRETA’s 2nd Vice-President.

In the context of this meeting, an exchange of views on the issue of child trafficking took place between GRETA and Christel de Craim, bureau member of the Council of Europe Ad hoc Committee for the Rights of the Child (CAHENF), and two representatives of the European Commission, Ellen Gorris, Rights of the Child, Directorate-General for Justice, and Valeria Galanti from the Office of the EU Anti-Trafficking Co-ordinator.
