DRAFT SYNOPSIS
OF THE MEETING HELD ON 27 APRIL 2010

FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CIVIL SOCIETY AND DEMOCRACY COMMITTEE

The Civil Society and Democracy Committee, meeting in Strasbourg on 27 April 2010:

1. Adopted the agenda and the synopsis of the meeting held in Strasbourg on 26 January 2010 [CONF/CIV(2010)SYN1].

2. Implementation of the Code of Good Practice for Civil Participation in the Decision-making Process

3. 4th Regional NGO Congress on “The Role of NGOs in a Pluralist Democracy”, Vilnius, 10-12 June 2010

The Vilnius Congress scheduled for June had been approved at the preparatory meeting from 14 to 16 April. One or two points had to be finalised, the experts and INGO representatives had to be chosen.

4. Next session of the Forum for the Future of Democracy on “European democracy in the 21st century – principles and challenges”, Yerevan, 19-20 October 2010

Following an update by Michael Remmert, Project Manager, on the state of preparation of the forum, the committee discussed the contribution of the INGO Conference.

5. Presentation of EU related initiatives on civil dialogue

Alexandrina Najmowicz (European Civic Forum) gave an update on the efforts to formalise civil dialogue in Brussels, which might be useful in the context of the relations between civil society and the Council of Europe [link to document: Towards a Structured Framework for European Civil Dialogue].
