Conference on “The
2012 Parliamentary elections: lessons learned and steps aheadâ€
Desirable
measures to ensure that the organisation and management of the upcoming
presidential elections in Georgia continue the clear improvements in compliance
with European and international standards shown during the 2012 parliamentary
elections is going to be the subject of the conference organised by the Council
of Europe, with the support of the Swiss Confederation, on 30 November 2012, in
Tbilisi, Georgia. The conference will be held at 09:30 at Radisson Blu Iveria
Hotel.
The conference will be opened by the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia David
Usupashvil, Director of Democratic Governance, Culture and Diversity, Council of
Europe, Claudia Luciani and Ambassador of Switzerland to Georgia Guenther
Baechler. The conference will be attended by members of Parliament, members of
Government, of the Central Election Commission as well as by representatives of
the international community, of the media and of Civil Society.
Discussions will be organised around four themes: the legal framework and
election administration, campaign finance and administrative resources, the role
of media and civil society, steps ahead.
A
political organisation set up in 1949, the Council of Europe works to promote
democracy and human rights continent-wide. It also develops common responses to
social, cultural and legal challenges in its 47 member states.
