 On 27-28
August, a two-day training seminar on European standards of imprisonment and
Georgian legislation is planned to take place in Borjomi (Georgia) for lawyers
of the Legal Aid Service of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance,
prosecutors from Guria, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi and NGOs working
in penitentiary field. The seminar will train participants on European standards
of imprisonment – highlighting issues of importance to the treatment of
different categories of prisoners (juveniles, women etc.) and parole – and will
provide a forum for discussion between lawyers, prosecutors and representatives
of NGOs on problems related to the penitentiary and ways to improve legislation
in line with European standards.
The training seminar is organised in the framework of Denmark’s Georgia
Programme 2010-2013 "Promotion of Judicial Reform, Human and Minority Rights".
