Regional Meeting of the Network of the Press Councils

Tbilisi, 21.03.2012A regular regional meeting of the Network of the Press Councils of six countries will be held on 22-23 March in Tbilisi Marriott hotel.

The event is organised in the framework of the European Union-Council of Europe Joint Programme « Promoting Freedom, Professionalism and Pluralism of the Media in the South Caucasus and Moldova 2011-2012 », implemented by the Council of Europe.

Informal network of the press councils was set up under the above programme with the support of the European Union and the Council of Europe and includes press councils of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine.

Participants to the meeting will present results of their recent activities, adopt a declaration on non-discrimination in the media, discuss the role of the media during the election process and also debate over different technical issues, solutions to which would be vital for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the parties (7.10.2011) and thus for further functioning of the Network.
