On 16
August a roundtable on “Building the Capacity of the Voter's List Verification
Commission” will be held at Betsy’s hotel. The event is organised in the
framework of the Council of Europe’s Programme to support Georgia in view of the
2012 (parliamentary), 2013 (presidential) and 2014 (local) elections, with
support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The aim of this
roundtable is to present the initial findings of the monitoring carried out by
the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) of the
recruitment and door-to-door campaign of the Voter's List Verification
Commission (VLVC) and to discuss with the chairman of the VLVC as well as other
stakeholders the remaining challenges and steps ahead.
A
political organisation set up in 1949, the Council of Europe works to promote
democracy and human rights continent-wide. It also develops common responses to
social, cultural and legal challenges in its 47 member states.
