Training of trainers on prison health care |

A
five-day
“training of trainers” seminar for staff of the medical department and the
Penitentiary and Probation Training Centre (PPTC) of the Ministry of Corrections
and Legal Assistance of Georgia (MCLA) and chief doctors from penitentiary
institutions in Western Georgia
will take
place in Kachreti, on 23-27 May 2012. The training will be led by five national
and two international experts of the Council of Europe and will focus on
national legislation on health care, the provision of health care to prisoners
in Georgia, European standards on the management of the health care in the
penitentiary system and ethical norms for medical staff serving in prisons, as
well as Istanbul Protocol standards and case-law of the European Court of Human
Rights on inadequate medical treatment of prisoners. In addition, time will be
devoted to the development of training skills and inter-active training
methodology. The training seminar is conducted in the framework of the Denmark’s
Georgia Programme 2010-2013 “Promotion of Judicial Reform, Human and Minority
Rights
On a basis of this “training of trainers” seminar, a pool of trainers on prison health care will be established at the PPTC. These trainers will conduct a first pilot training for staff of the medical department of the MCLA and chief doctors from penitentiary institutions in Eastern Georgia on 7-10 June 2012.
