In
the framework of the EU/CoE Joint Programme “Reinforcing the Fight against
Ill-treatment and Impunityâ€, the Council of Europe is organising two-day seminar
on ‘riot control’ for representatives of different police units of the Ministry
of Internal Affairs and students of the Police Academy. The seminar will take
place on 30-31 May and aims to acquaint participants with a human rights-based
approach to riot control, raising their awareness of good practices and
international standards for containing violent demonstrations, and their ability
to apply these standards. The seminar will be conducted by Council of Europe
experts.
A
political organisation set up in 1949, the Council of Europe works to promote
democracy and human rights continent-wide. It also develops common responses to
social, cultural and legal challenges in its 47 member states.
