Strasbourg
06.09.2012 – A five-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the
Council of Europe (PACE), led by Luca Volontè (Italy, EPP/CD), will carry out a
pre-electoral mission to Tbilisi on 11-12 September 2012, ahead of the
parliamentary elections in Georgia on 1 October 2012, to assess the electoral
framework and campaign.
The
delegation is due to meet the President of the Republic, the Speaker of the
Parliament and the Foreign Minister as well as representatives of the political
parties running in the elections. Talks are also scheduled with the Georgian
delegation to PACE, the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission, the
Chairman of the Voters' List Verification Commission, the Chairman of the State
Audit and with representatives of
the diplomatic corps,
civil society and the media.
A full 21-member delegation from
the Assembly will return to the country to observe the voting before making a
final assessment.
