The
Draft Code on Administrative Offences of Georgia was the subject of a discussion
in Strasbourg on 27 March between representatives of the Georgian authorities
and the Council of Europe and its experts. They examined the draft Code on the
basis of the expert opinion drawn up by the Council of Europe. The focus was on
its compatibility with European standards, in particular the requirements of the
European Convention on Human Rights. Civil society organisations in Georgia have
contributed written input.
Following the detailed discussions of the Council of Europe recommendations and
the draft Code, the Georgian authorities will now amend the draft and submit it
to Council of Europe for a fresh review.
The meeting was organised within
the framework of the “Denmark’s Georgia Programme 2010-2013 - Promotion of
Judicial Reform, Human and Minority Rightsâ€, financed by the Government of
Denmark.
