A two-day meeting on the legislation on parole boards will take place in Kakheti on 5-6 November 2011, in the framework of the Denmark’s Georgia Programme 2010-2013 “Promotion of Judicial Reform, Human and Minority Rights”.

A working group comprising the chairmen of local parole boards, the Standing Commission of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance, staff of the secretariat of the parole boards, representatives of the National Probation Agency, members of parole boards and NGOs, will discuss the current legislation on parole boards and develop recommendations for amendments, with the assistance of national and international experts: Professor Alexander Cameron (Chairman of the Parole Board of Scotland), Mr Jan van den Brand (National Advisory Board for the Enforcement of Sentences for the Minister of Justice of the Netherlands) and Ms Zoia Khasia (Penal Reform International). The recommendations developed by this working group will subsequently be presented to the Minsiter of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia.
