The Scottish Government, together with the Consulate
General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh,
co-hosted an event to mark EU Civil Justice Day, on the
afternoon of Thursday 3 November in the Dome, New
Register House.
The event focused on a number of key developments in EU
civil law that have a significant domestic impact – both
for citizens and for those who advise them. The event
was supported by the European Commission’s office in
Scotland. Speakers, including from the UK Permanent
Representation to the EU in Brussels and the Polish
Ministry of Justice, offered a series of short
briefings, followed by discussions, on EU legislation in
the field of civil justice.
Topics for discussion included child abduction;
cross-border child maintenance; and the recasting of the
Brussels I regulation on the recognition and enforcement
of judgments in civil and commercial matters.
