France marks the 75th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights, launching a stamp

In September, to mark the 75th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights (1950-2025), La Poste issued an official stamp for the Council of Europe’s mail in Strasbourg.

"From Strasbourg, the European Capital of Human Rights, this stamp symbolises the partnership between La Poste and the Council of Europe, carrying, both in the literal and the figurative sense, the values upheld by the European Convention on Human Rights for 75 years. A beautiful philatelic tribute to our Europe, more than ever steadfast in its commitment to the rule of law, to democracy, and to human rights,” said Pap Ndiaye, Permanent Representative of France to the Council of Europe.

The Convention protects, in particular:

  • The right to life and security  of the person
  • Freedom of expression and assembly
  • Freedom of thought, conscience and religion
  • The right to respect for private and family life
  • The right to a fair trial
  • The right to vote and to be a candidate in elections

The Convention prohibits, inter alia:

  • Torture
  • Forced labour and slavery
  • The death penalty
  • Discrimination
  • Arbitrary and unlawful detention

The launch of the stamp is carried out within the framework of a cooperation contract between the Council of Europe and La Poste.
