Data Protection Unit organises session at IGF on Convention 108+

The global annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is organised this year in Paris from 12 to 14 November under the motto of “Internet of Trust”. During the forum, representatives of governments, IGO’s, businesses, civil society, academia and the technological sector are discussing issues which relate to the improvement of trust on the internet. The Council of Europe’s delegation takes part in the exchange of views and participates in sessions which are related to disinformation, artificial intelligence, children’s rights, the right to privacy and to the protection of personal data, and hate speech.

The Data Protection Unit is organising a “lightening session” (in the IGF terminology) on Convention 108+ and its relevance around the world with the participation of representatives of the US IGF, France IGF and Mozilla Foundation APC (Africa). Speakers will engage with the audience to discuss needs and possibilities to guarantee an appropriate level of protection of privacy and personal data on the internet across the globe and whether Convention 108+ can be used as a reference in achieving it.
