Georgia bans corporal punishment of children in all settings

On 20 September 2019, the Parliament of Georgia adopted the Code on the Rights of the Child which explicitly prohibits corporal punishment of children in all settings. The Code will come into force on 1 June 2020.

This brings to 33 the number of Council of Europe member States to have achieved full prohibition of corporal punishment in all settings, including the home.

More detailed information on the ban in Georgia can be found on the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children website.
