From Training to Inclusion: Ministry Staff Strengthen Support for Vulnerable Communities

Through a Training of Trainers on Social Inclusion, the Ministry of Family and Social Services strengthened its capacity to better support vulnerable communities, including Roma communities, and help make public services more inclusive and accessible in Türkiye.

Over four days, 25 participants explored how prejudice, discrimination, and exclusion can affect Roma communities and other disadvantaged groups in their access to rights and services. Through discussions and interactive exercises, they strengthened their practical skills to promote inclusive public services, support equal treatment and contribute to stronger social cohesion.

The training also focused on communication and active listening, conflict resolution, non-formal education methodologies, trainer competencies, and the design and delivery of training programmes. Through practical exercises and participant-led sessions, ministry staff had the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge and develop tools that can support their future work with diverse communities.

These discussions helped participants reflect on how public services are experienced by people in everyday life, especially by those who may face barriers in accessing support. They underlined the importance of listening, building trust and applying rights-based approaches to promote equality and social inclusion in practice.

The training is expected to support wider efforts to advance social inclusion policies and practices, including those aimed at improving the inclusion of Roma communities and other disadvantaged groups in Türkiye. The trained participants are expected to further disseminate the knowledge and methodologies acquired during the programme, thereby extending its impact within their respective institutions and areas of work.

This activity was organised within the framework of the "Roma Integration Programme Phase III", a Joint Programme of the European Union and the Council of Europe.
