Seminar in Tbilisi to focus on “Parliamentary oversight and the role of the opposition”

The Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will organise a joint seminar with the Georgian parliament on “Parliamentary oversight and the role of the opposition” in Tbilisi on 17 September 2018.

This seminar will be opened by the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Irakli Kobakhidze, following which Tamar Chugoshvili, First Deputy Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and Giorgi Kandelaki, member of the Movement for Liberty – European Georgia, will introduce the Georgian experience with parliamentary oversight.

The programme will also include a panel discussion on best practices in parliamentary oversight, with the participation of Nino Lomjaria, Ombudsperson of Georgia; Christian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe office in Georgia; Ambassador Janos Herman, Head of the EU delegation to Georgia; Niels Scott, the UN Development Programme Representative in Georgia and Irena Mijanovic, Project Officer on Democratic Parliaments, from the Inter-parliamentary Union.

The seminar, which is open to the press, will take place on Monday 17 September from 9.30 am to 1 pm in the Plenary Hall of the Parliament Building in Tbilisi.
