The Governance Committee will hold a meeting on 4 July 2022, in Strasbourg and online. The Committee members will elect a 5th vice-chair. They will examine three reports for adoption on smart cities and regions: prospects for a human rights-based governance approach, hate speech and fake news: impact on the working conditions of local and regional elected representatives and regional identities: promoting dialogue and diversity in unity. They will also hold an exchange of views on the revision of the European Urban Charter II and discuss cooperation with the European Committee on democracy and governance (CDDG). Finally, they will discuss the work plan for 2022-2023.

The Governance Committee is responsible for legal and political issues relating to the effective development of good governance and democracy at local and regional levels. Its work focuses on promoting the implementation and development of the Council of Europe's legal instruments and recommendations in the field of local and regional democracy.
