The President of the EPP/CCE Group within the Congress of the Council of Europe, Bernd VÖHRINGER conveyed his condolences to the Polish delegation after the assassination of the Mayor of Gdansk, Mr Pawel ADAMOWICZ. 

"It is in shock and with deep sadness that we learned of the violent death of Pawel ADAMOWICZ, Mayor of Gdansk. On behalf of the EPP/CCE-Group, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the entire Polish Delegation to the Congress, the people of Poland and especially the citizens of the city of Gdansk" he said.

"We strongly condemn the vicious attack to the fullest. As members of the Congress, we have heard and seen already too many threats and attacks against politicians exercising their mandate.The horrific death of our colleague should remind us to uphold our democratic values and to never oppose policy by violence but always by arguments."
