On 30 September 2021, the Council of Europe will receive Little Amal, a giant puppet at the heart of The Walk, travelling 8,000km in support of refugees. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and its Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons is supporting “The Walk with Amal”, an ambitious artistic project which proposes a new narrative on refugees in Europe. Little Amal is a 3.5-metre-tall puppet of a 9-year-old refugee girl representing all displaced children, many separated from their families. She will travel across Turkey, Greece, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and the UK embodying the urgent message “Don’t forget about us”. Currently in Greece, she will be welcomed by hundreds of cultural events in cities, towns, and villages all along her route.

On 27-30 September 2021, during the forthcoming part-Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a report on “Climate and migration” will be presented by the Migration Committee. Other environment-related highlights include discussions on “Anchoring the right to a healthy environment: need for enhanced action by the Council of Europe”, “More participatory democracy to tackle climate change”, “Addressing issues of criminal and civil liability in the context of climate change”, “The climate crisis and the rule of law”, “Combating inequalities in the right to a safe, healthy and clean environment”, and “Research policies and environment protection”.
