The Democracy Agenda is the Peace Agenda

To learning conclusion arrived participants of the Youth Peace Camp Conference held in Strasbourg from 27 June to 1 July 2022. The conference brought together 33 young peacebuilders from conflict affected territories to add a dimension of peacebuilding and conflict transformation to the Youth Action Week and to the youth campaign Democracy Here | Democracy Now.

Their learning process was designed about democracy and peace interconnections, sharing stories on how conflicts affect youth and what young people see as the necessity to build peace. “In Peace Camp we have access to untold stories that media will not portray” – said one of the participants, and this sentence best portrays the results of the YPCC, such as motivation of youth to work on dialogue and conflict transformation in their communities, seeing human faces of conflict and understanding that democracy welcomes conflicts. Non-violent conflicts, that is. Their conclusions and proposals form part of the Call for Action of the week.
