Introductory meetings with school representatives to promote democratic culture in Albania

A series of fruitful meetings took place during the past week with around 200 students, teachers, and parents from the elementary schools "Hasan Prishtina", "Bashkim Fino", and "Naim Frashëri" in Tirana, "Çetë" in Kavaja and "Mlizë" in Elbasan, as well as the high schools "Eqerem Çabej" in Tirana and "Olsi Lasko" in Durrës, in the framework of the project Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania.

The aim of these informative activities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Sports in Albania, is to enhance interest and strengthen cooperation with schools engaged in the project. Project representatives introduced the educational staff to the project objectives, main activities, and advantages the project brings in assisting the students and school educational staff in recognising and implementing competences for democratic citizenship in the school and in the community.

The Council of Europe, through the project Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania, financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, continues engaging with 75 schools throughout Albania in its fourth year of implementation with the aim of improving the quality of education in the pre-university system in Albania, strengthening education for democratic citizenship, in accordance with standards and practises of the Council of Europe.
