Spontaneous Application Procedure

The Observatory on History Teaching in Europe (OHTE) invites experts in history education – both practitioners and academic historians – to express their interest in joining the pool of candidates for membership of the Scientific Advisory Council (SAC). This call is not for an immediate appointment; rather, it seeks to identify qualified experts who may be included in a pool from which future vacancies on the SAC may be filled.
Applications to this rolling call will be reviewed periodically by the OHTE Governing Board. Candidates whose profiles match current or future needs may be added to the eligible candidate pool. The current pool was established on 1 June 2024 and is valid for five years. Applications retained from this point forward remain in the pool until its expiration date (31 May 2029).

Frequently Asked Questions
How are candidates selected for the pool?
Applications are periodically reviewed by the OHTE Governing Board, and profiles that match the current or future needs of the Observatory may be added to the pool of eligible candidates.
I am already a member of the pool, do I need to apply again?
No. This call is for new candidates to offer their spontaneous interest to join the pool.
Will I be notified if I am added to the pool?
Yes. You will be notified by the OHTE Secretariat should you be added to the pool.
If I am added to the pool, how long will I be eligible for future elections?
You will be eligible for the validity of the current pool i.e. until 31 May 2029.
Does joining the pool guarantee future appointment to the SAC?
No. Being placed in the pool means you may be considered for election when vacancies occur, but it does not guarantee appointment.
When are SAC elections organised?
SAC members are elected by the Governing Board for the term of office of two years, renewable once, based on the procedure detailed in the Rules of Procedure of the Governing Board. To always ensure the presence of both experienced members with knowledge of existing working methods and the renewal of expertise, SAC members are elected at different stages.
An exceptional election procedure outside of Governing Board meetings may be triggered upon withdrawal of one of the already elected members, or if additional expertise is needed.
