During the opening session of the 4th OHTE Conference “History in crisi(e)s?”, Tomáš Drucker, Minister of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, officially announced the accession of the Slovak Republic to OHTE membership.
"Research-based insights into the current state of history education are vital for creating effective policies. In this regard, we are honoured to collaborate with the Observatory for the History Teaching in Europe, whose expertise and research provide valuable inspiration as we continue to refine our approach. Let’s remember that history education is not just about the past, it is about building a resilient, democratic future.” stated Minister Drucker in his opening allocution in the OHTE Annual Conference, before adding " Starting with 1 January, Slovakia will officially become a full member of the OHTE, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge this important milestone for my country."
The Slovak Republic has been an observer state within the OHTE since March 2024. Its full adhesion is a further step, which demonstrates the importance the country places on educating young generations in a way that aligns with democratic values.
I hope more member states will take the positive step of joining as Slovakia will do on 1st of January, to further add to its strength and in size“ declared Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe regarding the news of Slovak membership in the OHTE.
