MONEYVAL Chair, Mr Nicola Muccioli, took part in a conference on the first fifteen years of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism regulation in the Holy See and the Vatican City State. The conference was hosted at Luiss University on September 29, 2026, and organized by ASIF – Supervisory and Financial Information Authority of the Holy See.
The event brought together senior representatives from the Financial Security Committee of the Holy See and the Vatican City State, Luiss University, and representatives from multiple governmental and non-governmental anti-money laundering entities.
Mr. Muccioli stated that the AML/CFT framework requires competent authorities working together, exchanging information rapidly, identifying emerging risks and transforming fragmented data into meaningful financial intelligence, as well as sophisticated analytical tools. He also highlighted how domestic and transnational cooperation is key given the internationality of financial crime: Vatican City State’s participation in MONEYVAL reflects its efforts to comply with the standards set by the Financial Action Task Force.
