Open window / Youngest intercultural ambassadors: children in kindergartens discover intercultural interaction
Social media have the power to connect people from different countries or territories, and encourage interaction and mutual understanding. That is the aim of the Open window / Youngest intercultural ambassadors project, a joint initiative launched by the intercultural cities of Santa Maria da Feira (Portugal) and Melitopol (Ukraine).
An intercultural citizenship test to assess citizens’ competences
At the request of the intercultural cities coordinators, the ICC programme has set up a working group to develop an intercultural citizenship test. The test will assess citizens’ knowledge and awareness on human rights, their intercultural competences, their perception of diversity as an advantage, as well as their willingness to act in an intercultural way.
In preparation of the launch of its Anti-Rumours Strategy, the city of Montreal organised an anti-rumours training for local stakeholders on 12-16 March.
In a European context more and more dominated by identity politics, fears, xenophobia, populism and hatred, there are more and more cities that defend the idea of a positive management of diversity as a key factor for the development of cohesive and sustainable societies.
After 8 years of engagement with Intercultural cities, México includes interculturalism in the National Development Plan
On 29 November 2017, during the Lisbon Milestone Event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Council of Europe’s Intercultural Cities Programme, an announcement was made that the Mexican Chamber of Deputies voted a reform of the National Development Plan to incorporate interculturalism in all policies and government programmes. The law was promulgated by the Mexican President on 16 February, 2018.
A Path to build a United and Inclusive Society: The City of Turin adopts its “Guidelines for interculturality and participation”
In a time when social inequalities grow, the fear for “the other” rises together with violence and rage, an effort was needed to re-define policies and improve their coordination.
The ICC website has been updated and enriched. A new set of good practice from member cities is now available and the filtering system has been enriched with new policy areas. The Resources section has been restructured and documents are now classified in clearer thematic areas. A section on Local and national cooperation contains the main documents related to the Policy Lab for inclusive integration initiative. The Guidance for Diversity Connectors for Start-ups are now available also in French.
