In light of developments in Turkey following the Coup attempt, Anna Rurka, the President of the Conference of International Non-Governmental Organisations of the Council of Europe had invited NGOs based in Turkey for an informal exchange of views at the Council of Europe on 1-2 December 2016. The discussion focused on:
- Freedom of Expression, Access to Information and Freedom of the media
- Human Rights and Civil Rights – Advocacy and Defenders
- Access to Justice
- Education & Teachers, Schools, Businesses and Social Services
- Civil Society and participation in decision-making
The outcome of the meeting will serve as the basis for further discussions with the Turkish authorities and NGOs on the situation of Civil Society in Turkey and on its future cooperation with the Conference of INGOs.
