In May we celebrate Europe Day!
It all started in 1964 when the Council of Europe decided to officially mark 5 May as the founding day of the organisation, celebrating the signing of the Treaty of London on 5 May 1949. Shortly after, the European Union followed suit, marking 9 May to celebrate the end of the World War 2 and the Schuman Declaration of 1950.
Whatever day people choose to celebrate, Europe is built to promote democracy, peace and rule of law, and young people are leading the way!
The European Youth Foundation is supporting young people and their youth initiatives in learning about democracy. Their reflections and ideas are feeding into the New Democratic Pact for Europe.
Check out the EYF special webpage to discover some of the initiatives funded by the EYF that bring a youth perspective on reinforcing democracy in Europe.
What better way is there to embody democracy and peace than to promote it every day!
