Social Rights

On 22 November 2023, the Council of Europe project “Enhancing Employment Rights in the Republic of Moldova” organised a workshop aiming at enhancing the dialogue between the Ombudsperson Institution, the Equality Council and the European Social Charter monitoring bodies for ensuring a better monitoring of the observance of social and economic rights of persons, including those from vulnerable groups in the country.

During the workshop fifty representatives of the Ombudsperson Institution and the Equality Council increased their knowledge with regard to the European Social Charter, the work of the European Committee of Social Rights, the reporting system and the collective complaints procedure. The participants also discussed how the institutions can be engaged in the process of submitting additional information to the European Committee of Social Rights. Both institutions are bridge builders between government and civil society and know the situation on the ground very well. They can therefore provide data and evidence to help the European Committee of Social Rights assessing possible violations of the European Social Charter.

The workshop highlighted the importance of the partnership and direct contribution of Moldova's Ombudsperson Institution and Equality Council to the European Committee of Social Right's work.
