Workshop on the Belarus future law on data protection on 14 June

Following a study visit at the French data protection authority (Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés – CNIL), on 13 June, a workshop was organised on 14 June, in Council of Europe offices in Paris, to discuss the draft law on data protection of the Republic of Belarus and answer some of the principle and technical questions still pending and further discuss best European practices. Participants discussed important issues such as the principle of legitimacy of data processing, the consent, the information of the data subject but also the structure, powers and resources of a data protection authority.
The workshop was also an occasion to up-date the participants on last developments regarding data protection, notably the modernisation of Convention 108 and the GDPR.

The delegation was composed of representatives of various ministries of the Belarus concerned by data protection issues: the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Communications and Informatisation, the Ministry of Justice , together with representatives of the National Centre of Legislation and Legal Research, in charge of developing the draft law.
