On 9 June 2021, a new Manual on investigations in the juvenile justice system addressed to police officers and investigators was presented to representatives of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
This manual improves the treatment of juvenile victims and juvenile offenders during investigations, describes psychological characteristics and specific needs of juvenile victims and offenders in the context of investigations and addresses legal aspects of investigation techniques relevant to juveniles. Regional police offices and police officers and investigators authorised to work with juveniles will be provided with this manual.
This manual was developed within the framework of the CoE Project “Juvenile and Adult Detainees Support” (JADES) which is designed to address the issues related to the rights of detained persons and their treatment; crimes committed by/against juveniles; effective remedies against police misconduct and effective investigation of the alleged ill-treatment.
