At their 1509th meeting, on 9 October, the Ministers’ Deputies adopted a Recommendation to member States aimed at ensuring that the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and related digital technologies by prison and probation services respects the human rights and dignity of detainees, probationers, as well as staff [more information …].
They also took note of:
- a report prepared by the Council of Europe Committee on Counter-Terrorism (CDCT) on Comparative practices on the use of information collected in conflict zones as evidence in criminal proceedings;
- the document “European judicial systems – CEPEJ Evaluation Report, Edition 2024” (part 1 and part 2), as well as the 2023 activity report of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ);
- the fourth activity report of the Conference of the Parties to the Council of Europe Convention on Laundering, Search, Seizure and Confiscation of the Proceeds from Crime and on the Financing of Terrorism (CETS No. 198);
- an information document on the seventh monitoring cycle of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI).
The Deputies held an exchange of views with Mr Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly, on the outcome of the 4th part of the Assembly’s 2024 Session (Strasbourg, 30 September – 4 October 2024) [more information …].
In addition, the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Migration and Refugees (SRSG), David Best, presented a report to the Deputies following his fact-finding mission to Finland, which took place from 21 to 23 May 2024 [more information …].
