A balanced political representation of women and men is crucial for the political, economic and social wealth of each country. Though, stereotypical assumptions about the role of women, the legal framework and party policies are still in many countries factors which hinder women to take up a leading role in politics.

To further look into the situtation of women in Eastern European Countries, the Council of Europe conducted a Regional Study on Women´s Political Representation in Eastern Partnership Countries in the framework of the Partnership for Good Governance (PGG) programme. The study was presented during a Regional Conference in December 2016 in Kyiv, Ukraine and recently published in Romanian. 

In order to discuss the conclusions of the study and recommendations formulated for governments and political parties with national authorities, representatives of political parties and civil society, the Council of Europe, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, the Central Election Commission and the Platform for Gender Equality are jointly organising a public presentation of the Romanian version on 26th of  September 2017, 13:00 – 17:00 in the Europe Hall of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

The event will be also an opportunity to discuss the national mechanisms to enhance women’s participation in elections and further strategies on how to empower women in politics. Members of Parliament, CEC, representatives of political parties, civil society and media are invited to attend the event and share their experience.  Approximately 50 participants are expected.
