Protect children’s personal data in education setting

The digital environment shapes children’s lives in many ways, creating opportunities and risks to their well-being and enjoyment of human rights.

This applies in every day life but also increasingly in education settings where tools designed for teaching, supervision, assessment of children are deployed without the various actors always being aware of the challenges to children’s private life and personal data protection.

At its 40th plenary meeting, on 18-20 November 2020, the Committee of Convention 108 adopted Guidelines on Children’s Data Protection in an Education Setting. These Guidelines set forth the fundamental principles of children’s rights in an education setting and help legislators and policy makers, data controllers as well as the industry to uphold these rights.
