2010-2025: 15 Years of the Lanzarote Convention
Protecting children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse
15 years ago, the Lanzarote Convention, the first international treaty focusing exclusively on the protection of children against sexual offences, entered into force. Since then, the number of State Parties has increased from 10 to 48. Today, the need for action to protect children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse is as strong as ever. The 15th anniversary marks an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and reinforce commitment to safeguard children everywhere. Two events in particular will be held to celebrate the anniversary under the auspices of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of Europe.
- an Informal Conference of Ministers in Malta, and
- an exhibition of art created by victims and survivors of child sexual abuse.
