Slovenia prepares a Law on Barnahus

To celebrate the International Innocent Children Victim Day, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Slovenia launched a public consultation process for the draft Law on Barnahus in Slovenia.

Barnahus is a leading European model for a child-friendly, interdisciplinary and interagency response to child sexual abuse and other forms of violence against children. Its core purpose is to coordinate parallel criminal and child welfare investigations and provide services for child victims of violence.

The Slovenian draft law defines the framework for setting up the first Barnahus in the country by 2021. It underlines the strong commitment of the government of Slovenia to further strengthen the protection of children against violence in line with its international legal obligations, including the Council of Europe Lanzarote Convention.

This process is supported by the joint EU DG Reform – Council of Europe project on Barnahus, phase II (2019-2021). An English version of the draft law will be made available by July 2020.
