The Council of Europe has launched a call for applications to implement child consultations with children who have experienced age assessment in the context of immigration or asylum procedures. The consultations will focus on the rights of the child that should govern age assessment and how these rights can be upheld in practice. Children will also be consulted about how best to inform children about their rights and the effect age assessment can have on the wellbeing of a child.
The consultations will support policy makers to better understand age assessment from a child’s point of view, under the third phase of the PACE Campaign to End Immigration Detention of Children. The findings of the child consultations will also support the work of the Ad hoc Committee for the Rights of the Child (CAHENF) when preparing guidelines for member states on human rights compliant age assessment.
