Representatives of the European Union, the Council of Europe, Tunisian authorities and institutions are meeting on 11 December 2019 within the framework of the second meeting of the Steering committee of the Programme "Improving the functioning, performance and access to justice in Tunisia" (AP-JUST) to discuss together the progress made to date and the prospects of the programme aimed at making the Tunisian judicial system more efficient and accessible to citizens.
The three main priorities of the programme, which began in January 2019, are: 1) Strengthening the independence and impartiality of the judiciary; 2) Improving the quality of justice; and 3) Expanding access to law and justice and cooperation with non-state actors.
The objective of this second meeting of the Steering Committee is to strengthen coordination and cooperation between all partners who contribute to the success of the programme, including the Ministry of Justice, the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Justice, the Higher Institute of the Judiciary, the Higher Council of the Judiciary, the National Bar Association, the Institute of the Bar Association, the Court of Cassation, the pilot courts.
The Programme "Improving the Functioning, Performance and Access to Justice in Tunisia (AP-JUST)" is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
