The report “Evaluation of the Latvian judicial system” has been developed by a team of CEPEJ experts in cooperation with the Court Administration of Latvia, putting forward an expert view on the Latvian judicial system and the possible ways of improving judicial independence and self-governance, as well as the efficiency and the quality of courts. This report, as well as its main findings and recommendations, were discussed during a meeting on 6 and 7 February 2018 between the CEPEJ experts and representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Council for the Judiciary and other judicial self-governing bodies, the Court Administration, and Latvian courts. On the one hand, the focus of these consultations was, on legislative, institutional and organisational measures which can improve the perception of judicial independence and the public trust in the court system and; on the other hand, on possible ways of increasing the efficiency of court management and the quality of judicial services. These consultations had two main areas of focus: firstly legislative, institutional and organisational measures which can improve the perception of judicial independence and the public trust in the court system. Secondly, participants considered possible ways of increasing the efficiency of court management and the quality of judicial services. As a result of the discussion, the report “Evaluation of the Latvian Judicial System” will be finalised and published soon. A broader presentation of the report, with the participation of CEPEJ experts, is envisaged to go ahead in April 2018. This activity took place in the framework of the programme entitled “Justice for Growth” funded by the European Social Fund.
