With the publication of a thematic report on the use of information technology in European courts, the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) has taken a step towards a systematic and in-depth understanding of the impact of digitalisation on the role and functioning of justice systems. In order to develop this work further, the CEPEJ has agreed to be a partner in the first "Cyberjustice Europe 2016" conference, organised by the French Institute of Higher Studies on Justice (IHEJ) and the Cyberjustice Laboratory of Montreal (Canada). This conference has been hosted at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on 5 December 2016. It brought together, for the first time, actors and experts from around the world, and used the experience already gained by the Canadian Cyberjustice Laboratory. The conference has also been an opportunity to contribute to the development of modernised judicial systems, based on the principles of the rule of law that underpin justice.
